Group Lessons

Twirlers learn in a variety of ways.  Most of our twirlers begin by participating in a group format.  One of the benefits of our program is that we offer a variety of teams for twirlers to be successful depending on commitment level.

The Community Team

New twirlers begin by participating on a community team that performs at parades, exhibitions, and local competitions:

  • Parades - Columbus Day Parade (Pearl River), St. Partrick's Day Parade (Pearl River), Memorial Day Parade

  • Suffern Christmas Parade (night parade)

  • Youthfest at Rockland Community College

  • Palisades Center Mall - West Nyack

  • Helen Hayes Hospital

  • USTA Competitions in New York and New Jersey

  • NJTA Competition in New Jersey

Community Team meets weekly for one hour.  A minimum of twenty practice sessions will be held from September to the end of May.  Fees include insurance, costumes, and a team baton.  Participation of the activities above depends on the availability of twirlers and coaches.  Parents must transport their child to all activities.  The focus of this team is to learn the fundamentals of twirling and movement through a logical progression in the United States Twirling Association (USTA) compulsory syllabus.  Community twirlers may also participate in private lessons and open gym time outside of scheduled team practice time.

Competition Team

After evaluation by instructors, twirlers may participate on an appropriate competition team based on age and ability level.  Competition twirlers participate in the community events listed above and also attend competitions in New York and New Jersey, culminating with the USTA New York State Championships on Long Island, New York.

Competition twirlers are required to participate in team practice time as well as compulsory lessons.  Competition team members practice together one to two hours per week and may also take private lessons or participate in open gym time.  A minimum of thirty practice session will be held from September through the end of May.  Participation includes insurance, practice uniforms, competition uniforms, a team baton, and all team entry fees.  Parents must transport their child to all activities.

The focus of this team is to learn the fundamentals of twirling and movement following a logical progression in the USTA compulsory syllabus.  These skills will be further enhanced in a competitive environment.  All students are welcome to participate on this team.  Teams are divided by age and/or skill level.

Travel Team

Due to a vast amount of graduations, we do not currently have a travel team.  After at least one year's experience on a competition team and instructor evaluation, a twirler may be invited to participate on a travel team.  Travel team twirlers practice at least 2 hours per week and usually take private lessons.
